This project investigates the experiences of short-term rental (STR) providers and their responses to the loss of income due to the 2019-2020 bushfires and global COVID-19 pandemic. Interviews were conducted with STR providers in bushfire affected regions of the NSW and Victoria. The STR providers’ responses to loss of income, such as transitioning into long-term rental sector, offering emergency accommodation, and applying for financial support were tracked. The findings of this project reveal the overall resilience of the STR accommodation sector to disruptive events, and critically assess how STR providers can better withstand future disruptions.
